Wright and Hirst

Today is a day that I truly want to go back to bed on another gray cold, technically summer morning in Sweden.

Because in the span of 5 minutes of waking up I have felt sadness, madness, rage and depression.......

Sadness because I found out that Rick Wright, founding member and keyboardist for Pink Floyd died of cancer yesterday. The man wrote "Us and Them" and "The great gig in the sky" to which the latter song never seemed more approriate than today.....

http://es.youtube.com/watch?v=lBWY3bli92Y.

Genzoman wites it better that I could here:
http://genzoman.deviantart.com/journal/20509280/

Madness because I then read that somebody bought a pickled real-life bull with gold horns and hooves in formaldehyde for $18 million dollars US AND a real life pickle tiger shark for $17.5 million dollars US.

http://www.luxist.com/2008/09/15/hirsts-golden-calf-sells-for-record-breaking-18-million/

Yup! That's nearly THIRTY SIX MILLION DOLLARS for what is basically a sick and perverse lab experiement...

That when RAGE kicked in! THIRTY SIX MILLION DOLLARS people!!! 36!!!!! For what? ART? That's not ART! That's glorified taxidermy!!!

WTF!!!!! C'mon! can you imagine how many arts and education and social programs you could support in poor inner cities with that much cash? Can you imagine how many people you CAN FEED with that money!

You f***ing MORONS!! You spent THIRTY SIX Million DOLLARS on what is bascally picked beef tongue and pickled herring. I can buy a jar of each at the local food market for $5 bucks......

And that's when DEPRESSION hit and I'm going back to bed and hide away from this stupid, stupid world!!!!!

So the Hadron collider is up and running and , contrary what you read on the news, the first test isn't before the 21 of october...plenty of time to spend that retirement fund "pimp" style, arm yourself with whatever anti demon weapon you think will be appropriate or just keep going about normally. Whatever you think that will happen.....and gets you thru the night.....

:

Great hadron jokes so far ( give them the devLOVE, people)

London calling....

(EDIT) This is a long one so just scroll down to the end for the punch line if you saw the closing ceremonies of Beijing games

*
*
*
So I finally get around to watching the closing ceremonies of Beijings 2008 Olympic games..

After watching amazing choreographed numbers, stunning visuals and amazing fireworks. We are treated to London's invite to their invite to the 2012 London games....

On the big screen we see the worst ever Olympic logo ever designed and then it proceeds to show us a virtual double decker red bus going thru a TRON like version of London....

In the Beijing stadium, appears a real doubledecker rd bus diving around spastic caricatures of Londoners doing their best imitations of a bad Monty Python dance number.(Anybody remember the Fat Boy Slim "Praise You" music video with the bad dance troup in front of a movie theater....kinda reminded me of that but they were being serious....)

When the bus finally stops, the dancers all rush to the door like it's the last lifeboat on the Titanic only to be pushed away when the door opened. In the door there is a pretty young girl.

She walks out and then meets up with her Chinese alter ego from which she receives the gift of a football.

She then proceeds literally to walk on the backs of people on there knees back to the bus. Then embarks back on.

Then from the top of the bus emerges Leona Lewis and Jimmy Page ( LED ZEP!!!) to welcome the people of the world to London with a song. They sing....

"Whole Lotta Love" by Led Zep. Yep. "Whole Lotta love". One of the most carnal, sexually charged song about f***ing in rock and roll history. Err. And this they find an appropriate song of love to the world.

"You need coolin, baby, Im not foolin,
Im gonna send you back to schoolin,
Way down inside honey, you need it,
Im gonna give you my love,
Im gonna give you my love."

What? Seriously! Frankie*s "RELAX", The Beatles "Do it in the road" or Donna Summers "Love to love you baby" were to tame and demure?

And just to make sure that this lame excuse of a presentation ends with confused whimper and not a roar, Beckham appears from the top of the bus. What does he do? He kicks a football (soccer ball) into the crowd. The end. No boom. No bang. Just a ball kicked in a crowd....

*
*
*
SO!

This is the message the London Olympic 2012 Committee sent the world.

Come to London in 2012! We'll walk all over you, we'll f**k you and we'll kick you in the balls.

WHo the hell did this stupid concept.....

Bloody wankers has my school buddy Paul would say.....

Broken and fixed a year later

August 13th 2007.

One year ago today. One year ago I broke my right ankle.

Three bones. Clean breaks! The two big ones and the smaller connecting one.

Two weeks in the hospital. Operations. 4 big screws and one metal pin with 3 tiny screws attached to it. 3 months in various casts. 6 months of physio once the cast was removed....

I'm physically okay now. A slight limp when I'm tired and it swells a little when it rains. The funny thing is that I tend to drift to the right when I walk. I guess I need an wheel alignment.....but otherwise good physically.

And today I start my next school semester again. Man I think August the 13th is out to get me!
:D But I got a new teacher so this should be good....

Onwards and forwards......

CATFIGHT!!!!!

Really.

There are definitely better ways of waking up in the morning that the sound of my cat battling his archenemy underneath the kitchen table at 6 am.....

Short version.

We let the cat out early in the morning and sometimes we leave the kitchen door open so he can come in and out when he wants (and we get some sleep).

Well when Morgan was out patrolling, his arch nemesis came in. So I wake to hissing and loud meowling. I thought it was outside but no, it was IN the kitchen...Morgan blocking the escape route and his ennemy under table.

CRAP!

Suffice to say that I have never seen a REAL full fledged catfight up close. Well now I've seen to two within a 5 minute span less that ten feet away.

Lots of hissing, flying fur fluffs and some blood ( small scratch on my wife's hand when she tried to grap her cat.... not her best pre morning coffee moment)and Morgan vanquishes his enemy out the door!

Not bad for a dumb 12 year old tabby!

Roadtrip!

Went on the last road trip of the summer this last weekend....

It rained the whole time, which is bad when the reason to go see an outdoor concert. We saw Jose Gonzalez and Laleh at Dalhalla in Dalarna. Amazing concert except for the rain....

Visited Carl Larssen's Museaum and Anders Zorn also and bought some cute ceramics....because it was raining......

And took a lot of lousy pictures of soggy landscapes.....

Did I mention the rain?....

Vittorio Fiorucci 1932-2008

Vittorio Fiorucci died yesterday in Montreal.

Vittorio was an amazing world renowned poster artist, graphic designer, cartoonist and cavalier bon vivant hedonist with a lust for life like few I have known.

For those who know of the Juste For Laughs Comedy festival in Montreal, he is the creator of there Little green imp mascot with the big red tongue.

Like Robert Lapalme, he was one of my design and illustration idols. I was lucky enough to have him a guest teacher a few times in university and a chance to have a beer with him. He would shake my hand and have a few seconds to chat with me whenever we met on the street. A nicer satyr you would never could meet.....

Some of his work can be seen here...

Midsommar after!

Drunken disorder plagues Midsummer

Midsummer celebrations were typified by drunken revelry, fighting, assault, drink driving, an alleged rape and three shootings. Calmer than usual, police report.

Love the "Calmer than usual, police report" tag-on right after the big evil headline.......

I HATE AUGUST 13TH!!!!

So!why do i hate August 13th? At least in Sweden?

Well, last Aug. 13th 2007, while walking in the wooded area, I slipped on a pine cone and fell hard on a rock! (As you all know!)I broke the three bones in my right ankle. OUCH! Two weeks in a hospital bed, 2 months stuck in bed/couch and 6 months in rehab. I can walk now but can't run or jump (yet) ;) and have a metal pin with 7 metal screws in my leg (No. they don't set off metal detectors at airports).

And yesterday in class, while the teacher was explaining the end of semester and summer trips, she casually wrote 13/08 on the blackboard. When we ask what that was, she casually said that that was when the next session of lessons started.

AUGUST 13th 2008! W.T.F!?!?!?! Who the hell starts school on the 13th of AUGUST! (SWEDES, apparently) There's still 6! WEEKS!!! of summer!!!! And it's the best part of summer!!! It's the second half! Friends coming for visits, fresh produce for late night BBQ in someones cabin. The lakes finally get warm enough to swim in.

And I have to spend it inside, AGAIN!!!! ARRRRGH!!!!!!

Please excuse my mini vent!! Now I'm back to work!!!!

Musical brain farts!

Musical brain farts.

Let me explain. This is what I call it when for no rational or logical reason some obscure song or bit of music pops into my head or I wake up in the morning with it and usually makes me go : "Where the hell did that one come from!"

It's not a new song that I just heard or one of my all time favs, I mean it's usually songs that I hate, or some TV jingle from my youth or what really perplexes me is when it's a song that I don't really know or am quite indifferent to.

Examples:

"Swollow my Pride" by the Ramones. Much coolness here as I am a big Ramones fan but don't know why I wokre with it in my head this morning.

"Worst things that I can do." from the Grease soundtrack sung by Stockard Channing. I'm not a musical fan.I'm not really much of a Grease fan and haven't listened to the soundtrack or seen the movie in years.

"Gaslight village" theme. This one is out there. I mean Gaslight Village was a an amusement park on the Canadian USA border when I growing up in the 70's ( NO OLD FART JOKES!). It's been close, I believe, for 20 odd years so I don't know where this won came out of!!!!

I keep thinking that my brain is this 70's old school computer with limited data storage space and that brain farts are just useless facts that are being deletd to create space for all the new Swedish words that I am learning. ;)

Oh great....now I got "GAslight Village" stuck in my head again! Oh well gotta go have breakfast.

"Gaaaaaaaaaaaaaslight village! Yesterdays fun todaaaaaaay!!!!!! Dodi-oh do, dodi-oh do, do do!!!!

My new favorite new quote ever!

Dani Reese: Why would the universe make fun of us all?
Charlie Crews: Maybe it's insecure.
from the TV series Life.

...brings May flowers

First off, thanks for all comments and feed back! Greatly, Greatly appreciated as usual.

Well it's a gray, rainy day here and my beloved Montreal Canadians lost another game so I'm a little down this morning so I'm a little down. I guess it doesn't help that I'm listening to Bob Mould at 7 a.m either....;)

Enough moping!! :D

So May! What's up for MAy?

More Swedish studies, a trip or two, cleaning up my over 11 500 photos that I have taking since be here (about 22 or so are good), going out in the sun......

Oh And I start my exercise and diet routine today to lose the excess poundage that I have gained due to last years broken ankle. so if you see me eating some pastries, you can knock it out of my hands.....

Funny thing, this memory thing......

Ah music!

I heard a song yesterday that I haven't heard in about 15 years. Now this is the type of song my punk, industrial noise, hard rocker, alternative music fan personnae would EVER ADMIT liking because I would never hear the end of it from my friends.

You see.It was one of those sappy, formula " in love with best friends girlfriend" " why him and not me" "I could never tell her...." brain-sapping songs done one of those pretty boy bands. With terrible lyrics too boot. (BUT musically it was well written and arranged , catchy, nice piano, with a nice power chords crunch at the 2/3 part)( but GAWD did the lyrics SUCK!!!!)

And the reason I liked this song? You guessed it , kiddies. A girl. Yep, I was sure she was the one, the really and truly the ONE !!! The one that ( Insert long winded over romantised clichéd stereotypes here).

Now this the funny thing about memory is this.

I can't remember which girl it was. Seriously. I spent most of the afternoon going: " is it ....? No, not her.. Then it must be....! Hum, no. it wasn't her either. Oh Right! It was ...!! ....hum..no, she was long gone by then.....

Then I realised I sound like the absent minded wolf from Looney Tunes that kept going " Antilope?....Not antilope. Muskrat, yeah , yeah , Muskrat!!!!!!......nope not muskrat.....Water buffalo!!!!! Nope...not....."

Then I started laughing.....

Well, I guess she wasn't the one, heh? :)

Like i said, funny thing memories....or it could be just Alzeimers slowly settling in......except for the fact that I got the friggin song stuck in my head...ararrrgh!

Black Bunny of DESPAIR!!!!!

Everybody knows that the pink Easter bunny comes around on Easter sunday. But very few know about the little black bunny of despair. Mwahahahahahahahaha......

He usually comes on the Tuesday or Wednesday after, bringing little "gifts" like melted ,forgotten chocolate eggs on your grandmothers antique silk wedding dress, wakes you up at 2 AM because the excess sugar finally triggered not one but TWO root canals while your dentist is away and makes you realise that you forgot your Blackberry , the one with all info on todays important meeting, at uncle Earl's in Seattle.

He's a bastard of a bunny and boy do I love him! Mwahahahahahahah

Done in Illustrator. First time I ouched the software in months. Man am I rusty!!

Sportlov!

Okay Snow and ski-bunnies! Back to the weekly word this or at least the occasional
word thingy. This week, at least for me where I go to school, is "sportlov". It means "sports vacation". It's the week off in winter that is given to Swedish students to go out and enjoy winter sports.

But since there is almost no snow or ice here this winter here in Sweden, or least south of the Arctic circle, I guess the little thug- and Paris Hilton-wannabies will be staying at home playing Xboxes and sulk.....

My favorite Swedish Ad........

1) got a lousy cold and have the patience of a Hummingbird on Redbull.....
